The summer's been over for a while.

I've just never had the time to update this thing since I've been done.

The camp is over. Been that way for about 3 weeks now. And it's quite nice. It's been nice to have a bit of a break.

Apparently there were some complaints about me always yelling at the scouts. We know what pack it was, and it was the same pack that always complained and never liked what we were doing anyway. It is this same pack that is trying to convince council to let them run their own day camp and not attend ours. Well, maybe if their fucking leaders would get off their asses and control their damn children instead of relying on ONE PERSON TO CONTROL 20 KIDS WHO HAVE HAD NO DISCIPLINE IN THEIR LIVES UP TO THIS POINT, then it wouldn't be so bad. But whatever. They can go shove it.

Next summer is up in the air. I don't know if I'll be asked back or not. I don't know if I even care. We'll see what happens.

Argh...

There's no point for us to move all the equipment this week to a new location. The people who live in the eastern half of the council are willing to drive for everything BUT day camp. What lazy, fat cat assholes. I really hope they have a miserable week. We are NOT doing this next year for them at all. In fact, they should've made them pay an extra 20 bucks per kid this week just for us to move the fucking camp. Damn bastards.

But at least it's the last week of camp. I can relax after this week.

Massive teardown #2

Today we need to take all the tarps down, put everything back away in the trailer, and move to a new location for one week.

This shall be fun.

104 degrees.

That's how hot it was on the field on Monday. But all the scouts survived, so that's all that matters. And it appears that the heat has finally broken, so maybe it'll be clear from now on.

I suppose that this summer hasn't been as stressful as others have. I've got only a week and a half left of camp, and then we begin to plan for next year. I think I'm still supposed to be the program director for day camp, but we'll see what really happens. I doubt I get that position. I think I've earned it, especially with all the experience that I have with camps and everything. I think the only people who have more experience now in the council are my brother and my father, but not by much. I've consistently worked at BSA camps from 2001 to now. But I know I've earned the job, but we'll see if anyone else thinks so.

This has to happen every summer.

We fired two staff members today. There isn't going to be much of an explanation past this: they showed up late multiple times, they would not listen to me, they would not work with the kids, and they sapped the life out of the rest of the staff. And when they began to curse at me and say that they didn't need to listen to me, they were gone. Good riddance; get the fuck out of my camp.

Only one staff member didn't understand why we fired them. She thought that it was okay for them to show up late and not tell us why they were late and leave early. But she doesn't understand how a camp is supposed to run. She wasn't too pleased when we told them to leave, so I suppose it's a good thing that she's on the way out.

Now we need to find two new staff members for the next two weeks. And it really begins to suck now move to a new location the last week of camp. It'll be fun to say the least...

Oh, and by the way, we were going to fire them anyway today. They were terrible workers as is.

Wow.

Surprisingly, I haven't had anything to complain about yet this week. The kids are great, the parents are even better. All the parents are helping out as much as possible and understand that we're running on minimal staff. The parents aren't raising any issues, and they offer their assistance and say thanks for the help we give the kids and even enforce some of the rules that the kids need to obey. It's quite nice.

The only sad part is that I won't be able to see tomorrow unfold. I have to report to jury duty instead. Oh well. That's life.

This week WASN'T torture

The kids this week were really good. They didn't listen as well as the last group, but they didn't bitch and cry and moan about random things, which was extremely nice.

The parents were nice to us, too. I was actually complemented on how I handled the kids and helped them. It's good to know that someone is beginning to appreciate what I've had to do.

The staff, on the other hand, are becoming a major issue. They like to stand around and do nothing. They insist on having 3 people do a job for 1 person. They don't listen to me, the program director, like they should. It's an issue that I'm going to need to deal with, and I'm going to be an asshole about it since it's going to be the only way that it'll get into their heads that I am their boss, too.
